Tips for applying to scholarships in Canada
The early bird gets the worm.
Start your scholarship search as soon as possible and set reminders to stay on track. This way, you’ll have plenty of time to craft a well-written application, plus any additional pieces that may be required, like an essay. And remember to give those who are writing reference letters for you plenty of notice so they have time to write a great letter on your behalf.
Treat it like a job.
Having a plan of action is key when it comes to applying for scholarships. Time management is essential if you want to make sure that you don’t miss any deadlines and that you don’t leave applications until the last minute. That’s why it’s recommended that people treat scholarship applications like a part-time job; set aside some weekly time dedicated solely to researching and completing scholarship applications – it could pay off!
So keep at it, and who knows where your hard work will take you!
Edit your application
When you are writing your essay or response to scholarship questions, it is important to go over it carefully and make sure you haven’t missed anything. It can be helpful to enlist a second opinion from someone like a teacher, parent, or guidance counselor who can help catch any errors you may have missed.
Applying for scholarships may take a lot of effort but it is worth it to help ease the financial burden of college. The time and energy you put into researching, applying, and writing your essay or response will be well spent when you receive that much-needed scholarship.
