There are several pathways to becoming eligible to work in Canada. The most straightforward method is to pursue higher education in Canada and obtain a post-graduate work permit that is valid for up to three years. However, not everyone may be inclined to invest in further education, particularly if they have already obtained advanced qualifications in their home country. In such cases, Canada offers a remarkable program specifically for foreign workers. This policy, known as the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), aims to attract highly skilled individuals who can contribute to Canada’s economic growth.
What is LMIA - Labour Market Impact Immigration Assessment?
The Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a letter issued by the Government of Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), to Canadian companies that enables them to hire foreign workers. It is also known as a “Confirmation letter.” To obtain this document, companies must demonstrate to the IRCC that they require the services of workers from outside Canada. If a company is granted an LMIA, it can begin hiring foreign workers who can then apply for a work permit.
Having said this, to land a job with an LMIA-approved company in Canada, you need to be highly competitive and smart enough to ace the rigorous interviews. There are over 1000 companies on the Canada Government website that have been approved for LMIA. The list includes the company’s name, address, and contact information of the employer. You can browse through this list and start applying for jobs. However, you should be aware that the competition for these jobs is intense, and you should prepare well by creating a strong resume, demonstrating your skills during the interview, and researching the company and the job role. To increase your chances of success, practice answering interview questions that are relevant to the job role you are applying for.

Visitor Visa to Work Permit Canada
Another way to work in Canada is by applying for a visitor visa. This allows you to explore opportunities during your stay and potentially convert your visa to a work permit if you find a job. A new policy was recently released stating that foreign nationals who are in Canada as visitors and receive a valid job offer can apply for a work permit without leaving the country. Applicants who currently have visitor status but who have held a work permit within the last 12 months can also request interim work authorization to start working for their new employer more quickly.
It is important to note that working is not permitted on a visitor visa. However, you may still explore job opportunities while on a visitor visa.
You can find more information about this policy here at this link: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/notices/visit-to-work.html
